Sun-Mi Hong was born on the 15th of July 1990 in Incheon, South-Korea.
She began to play Drums at the age of 17.
At the age of 19 she was accepted into Howon University in Korea
where she mostly played Funk and R&B Music.
Sun-Mi's path was directed towards Jazz whilst listening to great records from Brian Blade,
Gregory Hutchinson, Ari Hoenig & Roy Haynes.
After being accepted into one of the most renowned Schools
of jazz in Europe, The Conservatorium van Amsterdam,
she was placed under the wing of drum masters such as Martijn Vink,
Marcel Serierse and Michael Carvin.
Over the five years Sun-Mi has been living in Amsterdam,
she has developed sensitivity in her playing.
This is displayed through a well tempered swing feel which
makes clear her personal identity within the music.
Within the first 3 years of studying her Bachelor, she was asked to play not only by her peers,
but also the teachers of the Conservatorium such as Benjamin Herman,
Jasper Blom, Martijn van Iterson, Frans van der Hoeven & Karel Boehlee
She also performed in Big Bands alongside Jesse van Ruller, Simon Rigter,
Abel Marcel, Humphrey Campbell and with conducters such as Justin DiCioccio and Johan Plomp.
She was invited to play in masterclasses with Trumpet player Avishai Cohen,
Pianist Enrico Pieranunzi and bassist Dominique Di Piazza and The 'Children of the Light' (Danilo Perez, John Petitucci & Brian Blade)
Currently Sun-Mi is playing in Daahoud Salim Quintet They released 1st Album 2016 March and the 2nd Album released in October 2017.
and has more recently been standing alongside Teis Semey Group, Alistair Payne Quintet, Brodie Jarvie Quintet to play their orginal music.
She has her own project she is proud to be involved with.
